Overview
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") supplements our Terms of Service and applies to everyone who uses SpellRack. The short version: don't do illegal, harmful, or scummy stuff with our service or to the people on it.
Prohibited content
Don't post, upload, link to, or transmit content that is:
- Illegal under US federal law or your local jurisdiction.
- Harassing, threatening, or targeting anyone on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any protected class.
- Hateful, including slurs, hate-group propaganda, or content celebrating violence against any group.
- Sexually explicit, sexualizing minors in any form, or non-consensual intimate imagery.
- Defamatory, libelous, or knowingly false statements about real people.
- Malware, phishing, or anything designed to compromise other users' accounts or devices.
Prohibited conduct
- Impersonation: don't pretend to be SpellRack staff, a Wizards employee, an LGS owner you don't actually own, or another user.
- Scraping at scale: don't hit our APIs, search, or pages with automated traffic beyond posted rate limits. Public card data routes through Scryfall; use them for bulk needs, not us.
- Automation beyond rate limits: scripts, bots, headless browsers, or any automated tooling that exceeds documented limits or attempts to circumvent them. We rate-limit by IP, account, and behavioral signals — bypassing those is a ban.
- Multi-account farming: creating extra accounts to dodge free-tier limits, abuse referral credits, multi-vote feedback, or evade bans. One person, one account.
- Any conduct that violates the Terms of Service or applicable law.
Community features (pods, feeds, comments)
SpellRack's community features (pod chat, feed posts, comments, public feedback) are for MTG discussion and friendly trash talk. Inside those:
- No doxxing: don't share another user's real name, address, workplace, or other identifying info without their explicit permission.
- No spam: includes link-dumping, repeated promotional posts, copy-paste comment chains, and any "join my Discord"-style bulk drops.
- No commercial promotion without prior approval: this includes promoting your own store, deck-tech YouTube channel, paid Patreon, or any product for sale. Email [email protected] if you're a creator or store who wants to participate openly — we have an LGS partnership program and we work with content creators on a case-by-case basis.
- Friendly competition is fine. Calling someone's mom is fine if you both think it's fine. Targeting individuals or groups in bad faith is not.
Wizards of the Coast Fan Content compliance
SpellRack operates as unofficial fan content under the Wizards Fan Content Policy. That places hard limits on commercial use of MTG IP — limits that bind both us and our users. Specifically:
- You may not use SpellRack to sell, distribute, or commercially exploit Magic: The Gathering trademarks, card images, art, or other Wizards IP.
- You may not represent SpellRack content (yours or ours) as approved, sponsored, or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast or Hasbro.
- Custom card content, mock-ups, and fan creations are allowed for personal, non-commercial use only.
If we receive a takedown request from Wizards covering specific user content, we will remove it. Repeat issues mean account termination.
Reporting violations
Saw something that violates this policy? Email [email protected] with a link or screenshot, the username (if known), and a one-line description of what's wrong. We read every report. Severe violations (illegal content, threats of violence, content involving minors) are reported to law enforcement and to NCMEC where applicable.
Enforcement
Our standard enforcement ladder:
- Warn: first-time, low-severity issues — content removed, you get a note explaining what to fix.
- Suspend: repeat or moderate-severity issues — account paused (typically 7–30 days). You retain your data.
- Terminate: severe issues, or repeated violations after suspension — permanent ban. Subscription is canceled, data is deleted per the retention schedule in the Privacy Policy.
For severe violations (illegal activity, harm to others, fraud), we may skip directly to termination without prior warning.
Appeals
Think we got it wrong? Email [email protected] with the subject line "Appeal: [your username]" and a short explanation. A human reads every appeal. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
